My dad and the Ecuador Supreme Court

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

My father recently got his Ph.D. in political science, writing a dissertation comparing the judicial systems in South America. He was appointed by the U.N. as a counsel to the Ecuador Supreme Court. Pretty cool!

Qualcomm gives Eudora a Mozilla makeover

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

Qualcomm owns Eudora??? Well, that’s news to me. And now they’re going to remake it using Mozilla. Qualcomm says it “has decided not to remain in the e-mail market because it is not in alignment with the core business or strategic goals.” Duh.

It’s unclear exactly what the new form of Eudora will be. Qualcomm’s goal is to keep the Eudora look and feel. More power to Mozilla I guess.

eMusic Songbird integration

Friday, September 15th, 2006

I’ve been looking at the eMusic site, and I think it provides one of the best possibilities for Songbird integration. I don’t think it’s been reverse-engineered as much as the iTunes store, but I don’t think I’ll get sued if I write an extension for it. The main thing is to figure out how the download manager works.

Is anyone interested in using eMusic with Songbird?

New website

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

Hey, thanks to my lovely webmaster, we have a new site with blogs. Cool. I’ve been working on some improvements to the library organizer. That seems to be a popular extension. I also bought a new iMac, so I’ll be fixing Mac bugs for my extensions. I’ll be looking into running Linux on it too. I’ve heard good things about Parallels for that.

Home networking to hit home

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

I think a big thing that will happen with home networking is the media servers and place shifting. Having anytime, anywhere access to all my media sounds pretty compelling. I’m not sure if the centralized server storage will be more popular. Personally, I’d prefer having my primary media storage at home.

Car gets 100 nanometers per picogallon!

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

An article in “New Scientist” reports on a nanoscale car powered by light. According to the researchers, the car could travel two nanometres per minute. A fleet of 20,000 cars could be driven on the tip of a human hair. No word was given on sticker price, and Detroit did not return calls for comment.
