Christian Themed Real-Time Strategy Game

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

Here is a Christian themed, Real-Time strategy game called “Left Behind, Eternal Forces”. Troy Lyndon, CEO, says that the game “perpetuates prayer and worship and that there is no killing in the name of God.”

Troy goes on to say that “There is killing of course, it is a video game. But the basis of the game is spiritual welfare.”

Hmmm. I think I’ll stick to family friendly games like GTA:)

Simpson’s Hit and Run

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Are you addicted to the game play of Grand Theft Auto? Do you feel guilty popping the hookers? No? Then this is for you. But for all you humans, check out the Simpson’s Hit and Run game. The game play is the same as Grand Theft Auto but with Simpson’s level violence and humor.

There are lots of good puzzles to solve and the range of vehicles is great — sports cars, rocket cars, monster trucks. The Simpson’s humor is also great. I have to admit, I liked it so much, I let the kids play with me so I could get more time in…with the kids…really:)

Karaoke Revolution

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

Are you an aspiring karaoke singer? Are your kids? Mine are, and they love Karaoke Revolution. I’m too old for that kind of thing (yeah, right:). There are a number of karaoke games out there, but this one is unique in that it measures your pitch. Not only does it show you the words to sing, but it shows you the note you should sing and the note you’re actually singing.

The game scores you on how well you hit the notes. It displays your character on stage with a band singing in front of an audience. If you sing well, the audience grows and cheers more. If you sing poorly, the audience shrinks. If you really stink, they’ll boo you off stage.

The song selection is pretty diverse, and there are several different versions of the game to choose from.

My daughter’s singing has improved appreciably from playing this game (mine hasn’t). I wish her song selection improved more. I can only listen to Cher’s “Believe” so many times.

Eye Toy

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

This is one of our family’s favorite games. It comes with a camera and superimposes your image over the game graphics. It tracks your movements and uses them to interact with the game. It’s nice because you don’t have to set up any controllers.

Eye Toy comes with several different games. One is a kung fu game where ninjas are after you. When they’re flying across the screen, you move your hands or feet to hit them. Using the motion tracking, the game can tell whether you’ve hit them.

It’s great for young kids because the interface is very simple to learn, and it’s physical. Even my dog can play it if he walks in the room and wags his tail to hit a ninja. In Eye Toy 1, there’s a window washing game that’s even easier to play for younger kids. Also, as many people as can fit on the screen can play at the same time.

There’s also some very challenging games, so it’s fun for everyone. It looks like Eye Toy 1 is not available anymore, but you might be able to pick it up used on eBay or at a used video game store. Here’s the link at Amazon for Eye Toy 2.

Enjoy!
