Songbird on the PS3?

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

Looks like some folks from TerraSoft along with others at SCEI got Mozilla apps running on Fedora Core 5 on the PS3. The author of this blurb wonders if Songbird would run too. I also wonder…

Hmm, I may have to get a PS3. With an HD and WiFi, a PS3 attached to your TV and stereo would make a great Songbird platform. DAAP client and server support would be even sweeter!

Slingbox on Symbian Phones

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Slingbox is developing a version of its player for Symbian based phones. Users will be able to watch their favorite TV shows on their relatively tiny phone screens.

More practically, users will be able to control their home PVR from their phones. They should also be able to listen to home music and view home pictures.

CD Quality Music for Phones

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Agere has announced a chip set for mobile phones that promises CD quality audio. It provides an ARM core and is priced at $30. It is also designed so that the audio processing does not interfere with the communication processing.

Just as with digital cameras, mobile phones are likely to eat into the stand alone music player market. However, one size doesn’t fit all. Super small music players and video/audio players with large screens will continue to have their place.
