Avoiding Jetlag jetlag

Maximize your travel enjoyment

Severe jetlag can be extremely debilitating, especially for those of us who need to travel frequently. It can take as long as one day per time zone for some people to recover. Unfortunately, people taking trips across several time zones may barely feel recovered from jetlag before it's time to head home. Other people hardly seem to be affected at all, but it doesn't hurt to try to minimize the effects.

The first recommendation is to avoid alcohol on your flight. Alcohol has a negative impact on the quality of sleep and can also cause dehydration. Drinking plenty of water is also important. It is a good idea to stretch and take a short walk up and down the aisle to keep your blood circulating.

When possible, schedule your flight to minimize the disruption to your body clock. After arriving at your destination, spend some time outdoors during the day to help adjust your body to the new time zone, regardless of how tired you are. When all else fails, set your alarm and allow yourself to take a good nap.

How to prepare for a smooth cruise

One of the best things you can do before you leave for your cruise vacation is get a map of the cruise ship. Spending a little time studying the layout of the ship will help you feel at home as soon as you board. You'll appreciate being able to find your way around.

Try to pack lightly, but don' forget the essentials. You will definitely need a swimsuit and sunscreen. A swimsuit cover up, hat, and sunglasses will also come in handy. A pair of comfortable shoes is also essential. Shorts and tops are nice during the day in warmer climates, but don't forget to bring a sweater for the evenings. You may also want to bring a dressier outfit to wear to dinner. Don't forget to bring your camera, medications, and all travel documents. You may also want to bring your mp3 player or a good book. Most importantly, come prepared to relax and have a great time.
